PHARMACOLOGY
Understanding medicines. Advancing rational, ethical and safe patient care.
Pharmacology connects biomedical science with clinical practice by explaining how
medicines act, how the body responds and how treatment can be selected safely and
rationally.
The Department of Pharmacology at SBR Institute of Medical Sciences is planned to develop a systematic understanding of medicines, their effects on the human body and their appropriate use while connecting pharmacological principles with safe and effective clinical care.
The Scientific Basis of Therapeutics
Learners explore general and systemic pharmacology, pharmacokinetics, pharmacodynamics and drug interactions while understanding antimicrobial, anticancer and other essential aspects of clinical pharmacology.
Application-Oriented Learning
Learners engage in lectures, demonstrations, prescription exercises, practical activities and case discussions while developing skills to interpret drug information and apply pharmacological principles to clinical situations.
Promoting Safe and Rational Medicine Use
Learners understand rational prescribing, pharmacovigilance, evidence-based decisions and ethical medicine use while connecting drug mechanisms with therapeutic outcomes, patient safety and responsible clinical care.
Key Highlights
Comprehensive Pharmacology Framework
Comprehensive Pharmacology Framework Planned coverage of general, systemic and clinical pharmacology, including chemotherapy and essential therapeutic principles
Prescription and Case-Based Learning
Structured exercises will develop prescription-writing ability, therapeutic reasoning and application of drug knowledge.
Rational and Safe Prescribing
Focus on appropriate medicine selection, dosage, contraindications, interactions and prevention of medication-related harm.
Pharmacovigilance and Evidence-Based Practice
Introduces adverse drug reaction reporting, critical appraisal of drug information and responsible therapeutic decision-making.
Preparation for Clinical Responsibility
Builds the knowledge, judgement and ethical awareness required for safe prescribing and patient-centred care.
